Just did 2 straight bevel gear jobs. 1 Pinion and 1 crown . These were to mesh with existing gears. I use my Gleason 12 to do the jobs. Here's the puzzle: The pinion came to the right chordal thickness at the correct tooth angle, but the crown only came to size after I closed the tooth angle smaller than the calculated angle by something like 15 min. Both jobs meshed nicely with the supplied mating gears. Is this a common thing? I certainly have seen this before. Both jobs were 14.5 deg PA. (lucky me I had the cutters).
