Trying to back solve a 100 year old application. Having trouble with nomenclature. This is for three planet gears running an internal cut gear.

Found this statement in the archives......

October 17, 1919. The original design of these three gears called for 14-pitch, straight cut teeth. On this date the drawings called for 14-pitch but with a 20-degree pressure angle.

I understand the second part, but what do they refer to on for the first part? The original design was done in 1905.

Did some early designs in fact have straight sides to the tooth? Sounds mighty strange! What is a straight sided 14P cutter?

Thanks
